The most beautiful thing about this book is the value it adds to any library in the world, regardless of who is grabbing it off the shelf. A child of any background will benefit from reading Los Superamigos de Centroamerica.
As a parent myself, I tend to gravitate towards books that can relay social messages to my son. I prefer fun and conscious reads with diverse characters and inclusive content. I worked really hard to create a book for kids that fits that standard.
Though I can find so many more, here are 3 great reasons why EVERY child should own this book!

  1. They say be the change, right? A percentage of the proceeds will benefit NGOs in Central America. I have partnered up with registered organizations who work to provide healthcare, education, and basic resources to communities across Central America. While your child flips through pages of Central American superheroes in action, the proceeds will be helping non-profit professionals do exactly what the superheroes are doing; tackling issues across Central America.
  2. Latinx superheroes!! I will always love Batman, Superman, and Spider man but they don’t look like me. I want kids who look like me to see themselves as superheroes, too. Purchasing and gifting this book will help spread representation for the marginalized and underrepresented kids of the United States and Central America. According to psychologists, children are most likely to succeed when they see value in themselves. I wrote this book with that in mind and hope to provide a bit of encouragement and empowerment to Latinx children.
  3. Cultural Awareness! I can’t even count the times someone has assumed that I am Mexican or Cuban. A significant number of North Americans are not aware of the very different Hispanic and Latinx cultures throughout the Americas. And that's ok! But that's why education is so important. Central America alone has 7 countries and we are all very different. Our dishes are different, our roots and ancestry varies, and we even have different accents and variations of the Spanish language. If non-latinx children learn about Central America, it may foster a more harmonious and peaceful environment in the moments they come in contact with Central American persons. Your support of this book will help promote cultural awareness throughout communities that may not have enough exposure to Central American information.
